Our 2021 Priorities

1. POLICE LEGITIMACY RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Policy & Systems Change Committee

  • 2021 activities include community engagement to prioritize policy suggestions, procedural justice trainings, finalizing a community led policy agenda, and creating recommendations and accountability mechanisms for law enforcement.

 

2. TRAUMA INFORMED CARE/ SAFE SPACES FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

  • Youth Safe Spaces Taskforce

  • 2021 activities include COVID-safe youth pop up events, building capacity among drop-in centers, aligning wrap around services for youth, and supporting culturally competent mental health services.

 

3. RESPONSE TO NONFATAL SHOOTING

  • Service Delivery Committee

  • 2021 activities include expanding a coordinated service network including street outreach, trauma and grief counseling, basic needs and social services; creating a network for home repair for victims of violence; supporting implementation of co-responder and 911 diversion programs

 

4. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

  • For example, Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention, Cure Violence, & Readi Chicago

  • Violent Injury Prevention Committee, Evaluation Committee

  • 2021 activities include mapping of hospital and police data on violent assaults, creating neighborhood profiles, staffing Cure Violence Steering Committee, and coordinating social service partners.

 

5. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Community Engagement Committee

  • 2021 activities include leadership and capacity-building content for community members, technical assistance for neighborhoods who want capacity-building to lead and refine their own violence prevention efforts

 

6. ENGAGING MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENTS IN VPC'S ACTION PLAN

  • Municipal Engagement Taskforce

  • 2021 activities include identifying and reaching out to municipalities to coordinate violence prevention efforts with the VPC regional action plan
