A comprehensive approach to violence prevention and reduction must include promotion, prevention, and intervention. Here are ways to get involved across the spectrum.

Choose Your Level of Engagement Each level of engagement

can support one or more of the VPC Action Plan Objectives. 

OBJECTIVE 1: Coordinate the community level response to nonfatal shootings to increase the number of individuals affected by gun violence who access services.

OBJECTIVE 3:  Work with regional stakeholders to advance recommendations from previous regional public safety plans.

OBJECTIVE 2: Increase the number evidence-based programs and trauma informed violence prevention programs funded by VPC and core funding partners that address root causes of violence.

Promotion (Objectives 1 & 2)- Spread the word about VPC within your networks

  • Individuals 

    • Become a member

    • Sign up for our newsletter, volunteer opportunities & committees

    • Invite us to your community to discuss violence prevention strategies

  • Institutions

Universal Prevention (Objectives 2 & 3)- Prevention programs that benefit entire groups or communities

​

Selective Prevention (Objective 2)- Prevention programs focused on individuals at high risk for being involved in violence as the perpetrator or victim.

  • Individuals

    • Connect to VPC member organizations that work directly with youth

  • Institutions

    • Prioritize serving those at highest risk for violence

Intervention (Objectives 1 & 2)- Serve individuals directly or indirectly affected by violence in their community.

  • Individuals

    • Serve as an ambassador for the VPC/2-1-1 Community Response Network for victims of violence

  • Institutions

    • Accept referrals from VPC/2-1-1 Community Response Network; Serve those impacted by violence

    • Join us for outreach in communities impacted by violence
